JTF Demonstration Flight — El Paso

A live border-operations demonstration from the AStar camera ship over El Paso: the El Paso mission layers on the TAK map and on the live video, license plate recognition, ground-to-air targets and chat, and beyond-line-of-sight video to remote viewers on AOG VECTOR.

Mission layers, map and video

The El Paso mission set — border, barrier, ports of entry and scenario areas — loaded over TAK and drawn on the crew's moving map, with search areas and the border line overlaid on the live sensor video.

License plate recognition

Plates read from moving vehicles at highway speed from the air, shown on the crew station as the aircraft tracks them.

Ground-to-air C2, beyond line of sight

Targets and chat sent from the ground to the crew over TAK, and the live EO/IR feed carried over Starlink to VECTOR viewers anywhere — no ground station.

On October 14 the AStar camera ship flew an 84-minute demonstration over El Paso (airborne at 9:25, down at 10:49 MT) for the JTF, working the border from downtown and Ciudad Juárez southeast to San Elizario and north over the Franklin Mountains, with the ground element and VECTOR HQ set up at the demo site.

Everything on this page was seen live by remote viewers on the AOG VECTOR page. The clips below are cut from the operator's screen recording, so they show exactly what the crew saw, map and overlays included.

  • The El Paso mission layers on the crew's map and on the live video, including a search area draped on the mountain
  • License plate recognition on moving traffic from the air
  • Targets and chat from the ground to the aircraft over TAK
  • 28 remote viewers in 5 states, including El Paso, Fort Bliss and Fort Huachuca, over Starlink with no ground station

Downtown El Paso and Ciudad Juárez from the air

Downtown El Paso / Ciudad Juárez

Flying the international line over downtown: the operator holds the X monument in Juárez, switches from colour EO to thermal without losing it, then pulls wide over the river, the bridges and both cities. The border from the mission layer runs down the TAK map alongside.

License plate recognition at highway speed

Patriot Freeway (US-54), El Paso

Plate recognition running on the crew station: the gimbal tracks moving vehicles on the freeway and each plate it reads appears in the inset on the map, with the vehicle and its speed called out on the video.

A TAK search area painted onto the mountain

Franklin Mountains, El Paso

A search area drawn on the TAK map shows up draped over the terrain in the live video, so the crew sees exactly which ground is in the box. Shared to the aircraft from the ground, no voice relay.

TAK chat and a target from the ground

Socorro, TX

Text between VECTOR and the crew during the flight, then a target pushed from the ground: the red TAK marker appears on the crew map and in the video, and the aircraft works it.

Flying the border at San Elizario

San Elizario, TX

The aircraft runs the border southeast of El Paso with the international line from the mission layer overlaid on the live video, so the crew can see which side of the line every object is on.
